RUN
Windows 10/11 x64. Extract the entire ZIP. Install Prerequisites/LibreOffice_26.8.0_Win_x86-64.msi, then run Portable/ScottywinsPublisherRecovery.exe. Alternatively Recover PDFs offers to open the bundled installer if LibreOffice is missing. This opens the normal installer; installation requires user consent and may require administrator rights.
Choose an input folder and Add input folder, or use Add employee folders to select multiple employee folders under a shared parent. The list is saved for the Windows account. Each listed folder gets its own Converted to PDF folder, with nested structure preserved. Without a list, the input folder is used directly. Remove a listed parent before adding its children. Old PDFs in Recovered PDFs remain in place and their existing review records still work. New conversion skips both output folder names at all depths. Existing PDFs and ~$ lock files are skipped. Inaccessible folders are logged. Failures continue to other files. Cancel safely kills only this app's LibreOffice process tree. Each file uses a separate temporary profile and a three-minute timeout. Temporary staging is cleaned after each file. Local output needs at least 512 MB free; network shares may not report space reliably. Pause every 100 files is on by default. Continue batch activates at a checkpoint.

REVIEW AND OPTIONAL DELETION
Open Review & Finish. Check every PDF page and layout yourself before marking a file verified; Select all is a convenience, not an automated visual check. Finish moves PDFs alongside originals with normal .pdf names. It will not overwrite an existing PDF. Unchanged original and PDF hashes are checked. Deletion is OFF by default. Only marked originals can be permanently deleted, after the separate warning and typing DELETE exactly. There is no Recycle Bin recovery. Back up important files first. Empty Recovered PDFs folders are removed, without recursively deleting remaining contents.
Records persist under %LOCALAPPDATA%/ScottywinsPublisherRecovery/Review and survive restart for the same Windows account. Reconnect mapped drives. PDFs created by the old 1.0.0 app or externally have no trusted receipt and cannot be deleted using this workflow. Originals are never deleted during Recover PDFs itself. Receipt write failures retain originals.

LICENSES AND UPDATES
Separate Recovery licenses use SWR- keys, with one-PC and custom multi-PC monthly/yearly/30-day/lifetime terms. Three successful recoveries are free per PC. Internet is needed for server authorization. Licensed sessions validate at startup and every ten minutes to avoid per-file request storms; trial results are reported per file. An authorization failure stops the batch with a summary. Updates are restricted to signed Publisher Recovery artifacts, preventing Office releases from being offered as Recovery updates. Interrupted trials with unknown results can conservatively consume one slot. Trial enforcement cannot withstand a modified client or fabricated device identity. License releases free a seat for another PC. Keys are encrypted for the Windows account. Online payments remain disabled; internal-use pricing is $39.95 USD/PC/month or $159.99 USD/PC lifetime. Commercial paid-service licenses are contact us for pricing. See LICENSE-TERMS-DRAFT.txt for the proposed usage restrictions. These restrictions apply only to Scottywins Recovery, never LibreOffice.
Startup, every six hours, and the Updates button check the Recovery-specific ECDSA-signed manifest. After approval, Recovery downloads and verifies the new EXE, closes when idle, replaces itself and reopens. Conversion must finish or be cancelled first. The updater retains a previous EXE backup and restores it if the new app fails its startup check. This checks startup, not all functionality. Existing 1.1.5 installations need one manual ZIP upgrade to 1.1.5 before automatic installation is available. Keep the standard ScottywinsPublisherRecovery.exe filename and install in a writable folder. The signature verifies releases from Scottywins; it is separate from Windows code signing. The Recovery EXE is unsigned.

LIMITS / VALIDATION
One user-reported old-file recovery succeeded with 1.0.0. Build, file handling, receipt persistence, collision protection, hash guards and deletion tests pass. Separate server tests cover seat limits, expiry, revocation, trial accounting and idempotent reservation retries. The added features still need an employee-PC test with real old files, mapped drives, cancellation and low disk. A PDF header check is not a proof that all pages/layout are correct. LibreOffice cannot guarantee recovery of every Publisher version or damaged file.

LIBREOFFICE
LibreOffice is separately licensed Free Software, not a paid Scottywins product. See ThirdParty/NOTICE.txt and the unchanged installer's embedded license notices and source links. Scottywins licensing does not restrict LibreOffice. This is not endorsed by The Document Foundation.
